Industry Partners from NASA’s Artemis I Mission Visit EBAD

Simsbury, CT., August 13, 2024 – Industry partners from NASA’s historic Artemis I mission, including companies to which Ensign-Bickford Aerospace & Defense (EBAD) is a supplier – Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, Boeing, and NASA officials visited EBAD in Simsbury, CT to celebrate and appreciate the employees who contributed to this mission.

Completed in December, Artemis I was the first in a series of challenging missions to build a long-term presence on the Moon. Through Artemis missions, NASA will land the first woman, the first person of color, and first international partner astronaut on the lunar surface, explore more of the Moon than ever before, and prepare for human missions to Mars. A variety of EBADs products played a major role in the stage separation of the Orion spacecraft as well as for key components of the Space Launch System (SLS) rocket’s core stage and solid rocket boosters. EBAD’s attention to detail, quality, and intricate testing capabilities were crucial for the application and the success of the separation events.

The on-site thank you celebration for EBAD employees included brief remarks from NASA speakers about the historic Artemis I mission and a commemorative pin containing Orion and SLS metal shavings flown on that mission presented to the EBAD employees. The event concluded with a tour though EBAD’s campus.

There are over 44 suppliers across the state of Connecticut supporting NASA’s Artemis program, including its foundational elements: the Space Launch System (SLS), the heavy-lift, deep space rocket; Orion, the safest human spacecraft ever developed for deep space travel; and the Exploration Ground Systems. Each supplier played an important role in Artemis I and are building the systems that will carry the first astronaut crew around the Moon in more than 50 years.
